How to Make Your Gift
It is only through strong partnerships with caring and committed donors that Health Care Without Harm can further its critical mission of transforming the health care sector, without compromising patient safety or care, so that it is ecologically sustainable and no longer a source of harm to people and the environment.
However you choose to give, we are deeply grateful to you for your generosity.
Matching Gifts
Prior to making a gift, we recommend that you check to see if your employer offers any type of charitable matching program. Some companies will match whatever charitable gifts you make with an equal donation of company funds; giving you the opportunity to bestow twice the amount of money to the organization.
Gifts of Stock and Securities
Transferring stock is an excellent way to support the critical work of Health Care Without Harm.
A gift of securities may provide significant benefits, such as:
- Increased value for your gift to Health Care Without Harm and decreased cost to you.
- A charitable income tax deduction for the fair market value of the gifted securities.
- Elimination of capital gains tax that would ordinarily become due if you had sold the appreciated securities on the open market and donated the proceeds of the sale to Health Care Without Harm.
Please notify us of the type of stock and number of shares that you wish to give, as well as how the funds should be directed (program, unrestricted, endowment fund, etc.). We will provide you with the information you and your broker will need to initiate the transfer.

Leadership Gifts
Sustainable Health Care is all about making decisions today that won't have a harmful impact on future generations. It is about promoting a health care delivery system that is ecologically sound and one which provides healthy alternatives in the delivery of care. It creates healing environments for patients, families and health care staff. These environments are respectful, safe, nontoxic and efficient and they improve safety for patients and employees and contribute to ecological health. Sustainability is a critical element of healing environments.
Health Care Without Harm (HCWH) and Practice Greenhealth (PGH) are working to transform the health care sector so that it is ecologically sustainable and no longer a source of harm to the public's health and the environment.
The Sustainable Health Care Society's aim is, through its membership, to provide funding for five percent (5%) of the annual operating budgets of Health Care Without Harm and Practice Greenhealth. Members of the Society take great pride in knowing that their individual investments make a critical difference to the work of these organizations.
Membership in the Sustainable Health Care Society is tax-deductable to the extent allowed by law. For more information, please contact Laura Myers, Director of Development, at 508-612-0334.

Webinar: How Sustainable Hospitals Are Achieving Major Savings
Health Care Without Harm and The Commonwealth Fund present a webinar based on the recent groundbreaking findings on how hospitals can achieve savings and reduce their carbon footprint through sustainability programs. This one-hour webinar draws on the findings of a recent Health Care Without Harm Research Collaborative/ Commonwealth Fund study, "Can Sustainable Hospitals Help Bend the Health Care Cost Curve?" which shows that savings from interventions to reduce energy use and waste, and achieve operating room supply efficiencies could exceed $5.4 billion over five years and $15 billion over 10 years for the health care sector. In addition to detailing the study findings, the webinar includes presentations from two health systems about why they chose to focus on sustainability and what challenges and rewards are in store.
