European Chemicals Agency to propose six new REACH chemicals
There was a total 53 substances on the list in June, some way off the commission's target of 136 entries by 2012. Most of them have been proposed by EU states.
They plan to submit dossiers on another 14 substances on 1 August. The substances to be put forward by ECHA are: three lead-containing substances used as explosives; solvent DMAC, used in the adhesives, pharmaceuticals and chemicals industries; chemical MOCA, used as a curing agent for polyurethane products; phenolphthalein, an aromatic hydrocarbon used in some pharmaceutical products.
*Denmark is revising its proposal to restrict the combined use of four phthalates under REACH's annex 17. Its initial submission was rejected by ECHA's risk assessment and socio-economic committees. The new version is expected in August.
