Excerpt from the article:

This report was prepared to provide information for the citizens and the media in Japan and all over the world about several mercury-related issues in Japan, including the case of the victims of Minamata disease and the global efforts toward a proposed Mercury Treaty to be concluded in 2013. It also intends to raise awareness about the importance of Japan’s mercury export ban, and to make the treaty stronger by learning and using the lessons from Minamata.

The contents of this work consist of the updated information presented by CACP, Mercury Issues in Japan, as one of the NGO activities prior to and during the first session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to prepare a global legally binding instrument on Mercury (INC1) held in Stockholm in June 2010, and also the additional information on brief of the Mercury Treaty.
