October 4, 2011, The Times of India
Excerpt from the article:

The medical waste being burnt in an improper manner at Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital on Friday afternoon led to suffocation in many wards.

Several patients admitted at emergency and OPD complained of breathlessness after inhaling the poisonous gases emanating from the medical waste.

On Friday afternoon, some patients complained of suffocation and tried open the windows of the wards. The class-IV employees of LLR were putting the medical waste into a fire.

When the patients complained to the hospital authorities, the doctors asked them to close the windows.

The hospital waste is always dumped in that ground of LLR, which when started spoiling set afire.

According to sources, the insinuator (waste disposable machine) is not working properly. Thus, class-IV employees do it manually.

Chief medical superintendent of LLR Hospital, Dr CS Singh refused that medical waste was set on fire inside the hospital premises and denied that any patient felt any difficulty.
