HCWH Position on Mercury Treaty Draft Text

Global — With the mercury treaty going into its third round of negotiations next month and regional meetings taking place right now, we are moving closer to a global phase-out of mercury-based medical devices.

Governments are currently considering a draft text with four options for dealing with mercury-added products, the category under which thermometers and blood pressure devices fall.

While HCWH continues to favor a list that only singles out products not to be banned (Option 2 in the text), we have issued the following position that advocates for a full phase-out under the various scenarios.
