International: UNFCCC Publishes Reports Summing Up Results of 2009 UN Climate Change Conference UNEP – The UN Climate Change Secretariat Wednesday published official reports on the results of last year's UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen (December 2009). The reports detail the outcomes of the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties at its 15th session and of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol on its fifth session.  more

Cambodia: Incinerator Planned
The Phnom Penh Post – The Cambodian Red Cross has announced plans to build a new medical waste incinerator in Kandal province’s Takhmao town without considering the health or environmental effects of this way of disposing of medical waste.  more

Jordan: Centralized Incinerator to Start Operating
Zawya.com – Jordan's first medical and industrial waste treatment plant will start operating by the end of this month. The announcement was made by officials: the plant will be based on combustion, and doesn't argue about the health or environmental consequences of this technology.  more

Czech Republic: Mercury Spill Contaminates Sewer System
The Prague Post – Record levels of mercury were found in the sewage sludge at the Veolia wastewater treatment plant in Prague.  more

USA: Kaiser Plans Solar Systems at 15 Sites in State
San Francisco Chronicle – Health care giant Kaiser Permanente plans to install solar systems at 15 of its facilities throughout the state, together generating a maximum of 15 megawatts of electricity. By using solar energy, Kaiser won't contribute as much to greenhouse gas emissions, fighting diseases associated with climate change.  more

USA: Carbon Dioxide 'Domes' Over Cities Could Increase Deaths, Study
Climateark.org – Conducted by a professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University, this study states that reducing locally emitted CO2 may reduce local air pollution mortality even if CO2 in adjacent regions is not controlled. The research also highlights a gap in the carbon dioxide cap and trade proposal that was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives in June last year.  more

USA: Hospitals Reduce Bottled Water to Reduce Environmental and Health Impacts
Philly.com – Four of the region's hospital and health care facilities have agreed to spend at least the next month (until Earth Day) educating visitors and staff about bottled water and trying to wean them off of disposable plastic and onto the tap.  more
