Tehran Times – The Tehran Municipality has warned about the amount of medical waste produced in Tehran. Approximately 90 tons of medical waste is produced in hospitals across the capital every day, and disposal of this waste has become a major problem, Tehran Municipality official Hossein Kalkhourani said on Monday. more

Thailand: New Phuket Incinerator to Burn Off Landfill Waste Doesn't Consider Environmental Impacts
Phuket Gazette – A new incinerator now under construction at the site will use any extra burning capacity to reduce the huge stockpiles of trash. Prachoom Suriya, who heads the Phuket City Municipality Environmental Division, said the maximum capacity of the new incinerator will be 700 tons a day. more

EHP – Population–based biomonitoring identified a previously unrecognized source of exposure to inorganic mercury among NYC residents. In response, the NYC Health Department embargoed products and notified store owners and the public that mercury-containing skin lightening creams and other skin care products are dangerous and illegal. Users of these products may be at risk of health effects from exposure.  more

Punjab Newsline – The Central Ground Water Board confirmed the presence of high level of arsenic in the subsoil water in some cancer-affected areas of Punjab. The amount of arsenic found in subsoil water goes beyond the permissible limit fixed by the World Health Organisation. more
