Mumbai: Bio-medical Hospital Waste Dumped in a House in the Area
NDTV – Deonar police found a room full of hazardous bio-medical hospital waste dumped in a house in the area. Loaded with biomedical waste from hospitals, that was parked at Atlanta Ground in Deonar made residents uneasy when it did not budge for four hours.  more

Europe: European Union Bans Bisphenol A Chemical From Babies' Bottles
BBC – The European Commission has announced a ban on the use of bisphenol A (BPA) in plastic baby bottles from next year. The commission cited fears that the compound could affect development and immune response in young children.  more

Philippines: Councilor Asks Gov. to Ban medical Services Containing Mercury
Journal Online – A Councilor asked the Quezon City government to ban or prohibit the use of medical services containing mercury in all hospitals and health care facilities. In a proposed ordinance, Councilor Dorothy Delarmente said pursuant to the order issued by the Department of Health in 2008, all devices containing mercury should be banned or prohibited given that it poses an alarming risk as it bio-accumulated in food chain.  more

Kenya: Feels Heat of Climate Change
Xinhuanet – Scientists attribute climate change to human induced activities leading to increases in greenhouse gas concentrations. According to a report from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, it is crucial that developing countries gain the knowledge, technology and capacities they require for agriculture to cope with the expected impacts. According to studies done by climate scientists in Kenya, there exist climate impacts on health, agriculture, water resources, forest and species and natural resources.  more

China & US: Researchers to Study Effects of E-waste
News Record– The environmental effects on people from electronic waste is the focus of a new study occurring in China but being led by the University of Cincinnati. The study, headed by Dr. Aimin Chen, an assistant professor of environmental health at UC, partners UC with China's Shantou University to examine the developmental effects on humans from exposure to the metal mixture in what is known as electronic waste, or e-waste.  more
