US: Hospitals Hold Earth Day Events to Highlight Importance of Going Green
HCWH – Health Care Without Harm and partner organization Practice Greenhealth collected and posted descriptions and links to dozens of these Earth Day celebration events. From making a rap video to staging water tasting and other educational games, those engaged in sustainable health care are finding fun and creative ways to educate their peers and their communities about their successes in lessening their impact on the environment.  more

Daily Times – The waste of hospitals and healthcare centres is jeopardising human life and it should be dumped as per the international laws to save further spread of hazardous diseases. These views were expressed by health experts who also called for increasing the number of hospitals and healthcare centres and setting laws for disposing off hospital waste safely. more

Argentina: HCWH Asks Minister of Health to Ban Mercury Thermometers
HCWH – Health Care Without Harm Latin America has requested Argentina's Minister of Health, Dr. Jorge Manzur, to ban the use of all mercury thermometers and to ensure access to safe alternatives for the population and the environment.  more (in spanish)

US: Doctors Seek Better Regulation of Toxins
LSJ – Many children's advocates say they're concerned that toxic exposures could be fueling the recent rise in early puberty in girls and a variety of chronic diseases, such as autism, allergies, asthma and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD. According to a policy statement from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the US needs to do a better job protecting children and pregnant women from toxic chemicals. more

Asia Development Bank – The seminar "Climate Risk and Resilience: Securing the Region's Future", carried out in Vietnam, examined the threats posed by climate change to water and food security in Asia and explored strategies to manage those threats. According to a participant panel of experts, climate change will create unprecedented challenges in the Asia-Pacific region in coming years, exacerbating weather related disasters.  more
