Asia: Global Green and Healthy Hospitals Network Launched
HCWH – Hospitals, health systems and health organizations representing the interests of more than 2,500 hospitals from six continents launched the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals Network, an international initiative to reduce the health sector’s ecological footprint and promote public environmental health. One in a series of events to be held around the world in 2012, the launch took place at the 20th Annual Conference of the International Health Promoting Hospitals, where 33 new hospitals from countries as diverse as Thailand, Sweden, the Philippines, Nigeria and Taiwan committed to endorse the Network and undertake a series of initiatives to green their facilities.  more

Mumbai: Hospital Waste Not Clear, Just Shifted
Asian Age – After reports surfaced that bio-medical waste of Masina Hospital was being dumped outside its own premises, flouting disposal norms and precautions, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation picked up the waste and dumped it in the lane across the hospital. Ironically, adjacent to the dumped waste stands another hospital, albeit a private one.  more

UK: Government Invests in Wool Packaging Solutions to Reduce Vaccine Wastages
PBR – The UK Government is investing in wool packaging solutions to combat the global problem of more than 50% wastage in vaccines, as reported by WHO. Woolcool packaging products are sustainable as the sheep's wool is a naturally effective insulation and compostable. The other elements of the Woolcool packaging are recycled or recyclable.  more

US: New Initiative Challenges Hospitals to Improve Environmental Footprint
HHI – A new network in the United States, the Healthier Hospitals Initiative (HHI) and its eleven sponsoring health systems announced a set of challenges for hospitals nationwide aimed at reducing the U.S. healthcare sector’s environmental footprint. More than 500 leading hospitals across the United States have joined the HHI, a partnership coordinated by Health Care Without Harm, Practice Greenhealth,and the Center for Health Design.  more

Times of India – Huge quantity of e-waste is generated in the city every day. In the absence of a policy and lack of planning, NMC is collecting the e-waste along with garbage. Consequently, the e-waste is disposed off in an unscientific manner causing health hazards and environment pollution. In fact, proper collection of e-waste could bring in some revenue for Nagpur Municipal Corporation.  more
