Jakarta Post – Yuyun Ismawati, member of HCWH's Indonesia Partner organization BaliFokus, is an environmental engineer who has worked on design of city and rural water supply systems, and later on designing systems for safe waste management. She was awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize in 2009. Argentina: Hospital Goes Mercury Free
Momarandu – Vidal Hospital from Corrientes, Argentina, has phased out its mercury based medical devices. This includes among other things, replacing all mercury thermometers for digital thermometers. Nurses and Doctors of the hospital participated of this process following national standards and WHO guidelines. more

Indonesia: Jakarta Vulnerable to Climate Change
Jakarta Post – Five of the 530 urban areas in South East Asia most vulnerable to climate change are in Jakarta, according to the results of the International Development Research Center's (IDRC) Economy and Environment Program for Southeast Asia (EEPSA). The results said that climate change will have the strongest impact on the livelihoods of those in urban areas with middle to lower incomes. According to Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo, the city will have to find ways to deal with severe floods caused by climate change, along with the food insecurity that may arise as a result of these floods. more

US: Health Care Professionals Return From CleanMed Ready to Green Health Care
Market Wire– Health care professionals from across the US engaged in sustainable health care participated of CleanMed, a conference on health care sustainability. CleanMed provided more than 50 multidisciplinary educational sessions that made the business case for health care sustainability as well as highlighted the health concerns of climate change and environmental impacts. The Conference also provided tools, education, practice guidelines and other assistance to hospitals to help them engage in sustainable operations. more
