A Day in the Life
Recently, I was in Washington DC making a presentation about HCWHs work around the world. I decided to take a novel approach and give my audience a taste of what was happening in HCWH across the globe on that day alone. It was September 14th . It took a while.
On that day we were in Bangkok meeting with the Ministry of Health to discuss mercury substitution in the health sector. In Buenos Aires we were launching an Internet–based campaign to convince pharmacies to stop selling mercury thermometers.
In Katmandu we were working with our partner organization, Healthcare Foundation of Nepal and various national and international groups to promote sustainable health care waste management. In Tanzania we were finalizing a report – featured in this newsletter – on a successful pilot of small scale alternatives to incineration. In Brussels we were releasing a report documenting how reducing greenhouse gas emissions will result in major gains in public health. And in Washington itself our colleagues–representing leading US health care systems – were both helping promote innovative legislation that will reform chemical policy in the United States while also discussing how to significantly reduce their energy consumption.
The sun never sets when you are a global campaign. And, while we make sure to have fun along the way, HCWH never rests.
Enjoy the newsletter!
