Stericycle Watch

Stericycle, Inc. is the largest medical waste treatment and disposal company in the United States, and a growing global presence. Although the company's mission is "to be the leading company dedicated to the environmentally responsible management of infection control and compliance services for the health care community," it continues to incinerate medical waste at the six U.S. facilities it owns.

Update: May 6, 2003 Annual Shareholder Meeting
On May 6, HCWH representatives and residents from communities where Stericycle is still operating incinerators traveled to Stericycle's annual shareholder meeting to deliver a new HCWH report card that assesses Stericycle's environmental performance, and to share their concerns with the company.

The report card is a follow-up to the May 2002 HCWH report Stericycle: Living Up to its Mission? (pdf). In late 2002, Stericycle closed two problem-laden incinerators in St. Louis, Missouri, and the Gila River Indian Community in Arizona, both of which drew intense local opposition.
